I am Bamber Hawes, I am an artist/designer/maker.

Much of my artwork is a meditation on the beauty and wonder of insignificant things.

I have divided the work into different galleries ~ please note there are no catagories for oil paintings, watercolours, or portraits!

I know there is a lot of work on here ~ probably some would say too much work.
But I see this site as a sort of personal achive as well as an on-line exhibition space.
This site is a work in progress ~ there will be new work added continually.

I was born and grew up in West Sussex.
After dropping out of the first year of training to be an architect I went to West Sussex College of Design and did four years of Industrial Design and Craft.
In 1983, after college, I moved to London and worked as a free lance furniture and prototype maker.
Some years later I changed to doing set building, art direction and model making.
In 1991 while fitting out my 70 ft narrowboat, I met the lovely costume maker Rachel Bowen ~ we married that year.
We have two children ~ Matilda and Harry.
When I finally had my fill of the exasperation at the media world I returned to designing and making of bespoke furniture.
In 2005 we moved from the hurly-burly of Hackney to the beauty of Shropshire.
I still make furniture.

My commissioned work ~ furniture and interiors can be seen at
